Gift Economy has no obligation to return something or reciprocity . If there is obligation, it is not Gift Economy but a kind of delayed trade. At very basic, Gift Economy works like, if you have extra to give, you give or you see someone in need and you can help anyway you help without any hidden agenda. In Gift Economy, there will be least personal ownership. Most of the things are shared and cared by everyone. It is not Me and Mine but We and Ours.
There is no obligation of any kind in Gift Economy.
imagine ordering from Amazon for free. That’s the best and strongest economy. Gift economy. Only thing required is top notch distribution of wealth by the government.

This reminds me a lot of my group of friends where we never really keep track of how much we spend on one another but we always "get each other back next time". For example I would pay for my friends coffee if she was running late for class and not expect her to pay me back. Then some time later she might pay for my uber, it may not be the exact same cost as the coffee but since we have this social connection we called it "even". Essentially we'd "pay each other back" with a series of trades over the course of our friendship.
I used to give my ex gifts on his birthday but he never gave me one 🙂 its not that i wanted gifts, but i did hope for a gesture anyway bcz when this happens we start to feel that we're less important for the said person.

The gift economy is about people in a community taking care of each other. Its not all about a physical object exchanging hands or people feeling they owe someone else a debt.
